Primary Arms 1 6x Scope Gen 2 Review

I love ane-6x scopes…or LVPOs (low ability variable optics) as the absurd kids telephone call them.

I run them in my general purpose and competition AR-15s since they practice well up-close and out to several hundred yards.

Now in that location's a decent amount of 1-6x scopes on the marketplace…so what's the best upkeep one?

My selection goes to the Principal Artillery ane-6x ACSS.

Why a i-6x Scope?

First off…why even look at i-6x scopes?

I kind of alluded to it in the commencement…because they are great for both shut shots and going out to altitude.

Exactly what you'd encounter in rifle competitions (or real life for you badasses out there).

PA 1-6x in Action
PA 1-6x in Activeness

The 1x is articulate and usually has a big reticle to striking A-zones. While 6x is enough for several hundred yards.

I can do 400 yards semi-easily while other better shooters tin become further.

Now what sets the Primary Artillery 1-6x apart?

ACSS Reticle

I dear this thing.

That big 3/4 circumvolve reticle with a pointy chevron for close shots. And neat bullet drop bounty for longer shots.

Plus power to estimate tiptop of a target, wind holds, and moving targets.

ACSS Reticle Extras

It's also illuminated…but it'south non desert-noon rated. Most probable only usable at dawn or dusk.

All of these things place it ahead of my previous favorite upkeep 1-6x scope…the Vortex Strike Hawkeye (total review).

PA 1-6x vs Strike Eagle 1-6x
PA 1-6x vs Strike Eagle one-6x

One of the things I didn't dear almost information technology was the lack of a definite point of aim…

strike eagle 1x
Strike Hawkeye 1x

You had to mentally remember…"ok, allow's find that intersection of the vertical line with the first horizontal line."

Requite me the ACSS chevron whatever day of the calendar week.

Second Focal Plane

It's also second focal aeroplane (SFP)…which means the reticle stays the aforementioned size at 1x through 6x.

Information technology makes it…more affordable, and for small zoom ranges a total-sized reticle still doesn't take up too much real estate fifty-fifty at max 6c zoom.

Glass Quality

Some other category where the Primary Artillery wins against the Strike Hawkeye is in glass quality.

It'southward clearer at 1x but where information technology really shines is at 6x…where the Strike Hawkeye has very apparent lens distortion.

6x Magnification, Primary Arms vs Strike Eagle
6x Magnification, Primary Artillery vs Strike Hawkeye

This video shows how clear it is…and a photographic camera doesn't do it justice compared to your real eyeballs.

For a scope under $300…the drinking glass quality is insane.

Shooting with the PA ane-6x

In brusk…information technology'due south actually easy to transition from target to target at close distances.

And easy to shoot further targets one time you lot get your bullet drop down…

ACSS Reticle, 6x at 200 Yards

Hither it is in activity at 200 yards…

The magnification band is easier to plough compared to the Vortex Strike Hawkeye…but not so light that information technology feels cheap.

You can go a throw lever for really quick transitions too.

Mounts

I opted for the Master Arms Deluxe Extended mountain. You can add information technology on the main product page and some a few bucks.

You tin can see that it really pushes the scope frontward, which I like on the AR-fifteen platform.

Mounted Primary Arms 1-6x
Mounted Primary Arms one-6x

It's a hefty boi though but it's great for an boosted $49 or so.

If yous desire to relieve some weight…I'1000 a large fan of the Aero Ultralight 30mm rings which is currently on the Strike Hawkeye.

Primary Arms likewise offers a QD (quick-disassemble) pick but those are much pricier at effectually $170.

For me…I usually leave my LVPO on my competition burglarize so I don't need to worry about minute null shifts. And then I go with a fixed option over the QD ones.

By the Numbers

Reliability 5/5

We're up to over 2000 rounds with this thing…mostly on 5.56 platforms but a few hundred in .308…and information technology's held upwardly great. And if it didn't…Primary Artillery' warranty will make certain it gets fixed.

Ergonomics five/5

No complaints here…the magnification fin is large and doesn't crave too much strength to alter.

Looks 4/5

Personally I'm non a fan of Primary Arms' chop-sticky font…but I know that'south a dumb nitpicky matter.

Customization v/five

Ok…at that place not that much to customize virtually a scope. Merely it's no less than whatever other one. Scope caps, throw lever, and lots of scope mounts.

Glass Quality: five/five

For the price I'm amazed at the drinking glass quality. Manufacturing affordable scopes has really come a long fashion.

Blindside for the Cadet: 5/five

Again…my pick for the best Bang-For-The-Cadet LVPO telescopic out there right now. Even more than credibility points for the ACSS reticle.

Overall: 5/5

Conclusion

Overall a glowing review from me for the Primary Arms 1-6x ACSS Gen Three scope.
